Big Walk Guide: Everything You Need Before (and During) Your Walk

By DayOneFix Editorial · August 6, 2026

Big Walk is the new cooperative “walker-talker” from House House, the Melbourne studio behind Untitled Goose Game, published by Panic. It launched on August 4, 2026 for PC and Mac (Steam and the Mac App Store), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 — and it became an instant hit, with “Very Positive” reviews on Steam within days.

The premise: 2 to 12 players hike across a handcrafted island, solving puzzles that can only be cracked by talking to each other. Proximity voice chat is the core mechanic — voices fade with distance, echo in corridors, muffle through walls, and crackle over in-game walkie-talkies.

What kind of game is this?

Don’t expect combat, timers, or fail states. Big Walk is a puzzle adventure where the puzzle is usually communication itself: one player sees a code the other needs, a melody has to be hummed across a valley, directions have to be mimed when words fail. Critics have grouped it with the “friendslop” co-op wave (Peak, Lethal Company, R.E.P.O.), but reviewers consistently note it’s the most deliberately designed of the bunch — a handcrafted island with engineered puzzles rather than randomized chaos.

Two ground rules from the developers worth knowing before you start:

  1. Play with in-game comms only. House House explicitly discourages using Discord or any external voice chat — distance-based audio is the game. The in-game text chat has full feature parity with voice, so mic-less players aren’t left out.
  2. The host’s save is the save. Progress is saved automatically by the session host, so pick a host who’ll be around for the whole campaign.

Sources

House House as developer, Panic as publisher, the August 4, 2026 release date and the platform list (Steam and the Mac App Store, PS5, Switch 2) come from the official site at bigwalk.game and the platform store pages. The “Very Positive within days” line is the Steam store review tag from launch week; that tag moves, and we did not re-check it today. The 2–12 player range, the absence of a solo mode, proximity voice and the walkie-talkie, in-game text chat’s feature parity with voice, House House’s advice against external voice apps such as Discord, and host-side autosaving all come from the official FAQ — quoted line by line on the player-count page. Every row of the quick-answer table is sourced on the page it links to: length from launch-week playtime reports, the 1.4.8 voice fix from the voice-chat page, and connection faults from the can’t-connect page. Filing the game under “friendslop” while calling it the most deliberately designed of that wave is the general critical read; our own version of that argument lives in Big Walk vs Peak.
