You have 400 Whimstars and no idea what they do — here is the answer

Fifty-two million people have watched one man collect Whimstars, and the most-liked opinion underneath is that they are not worth much. The exact comment, on the biggest Infinity Nikki collection video in Chinese: “honestly the stars and the dew don’t give you much benefit.”

That is wrong, and it is wrong in an expensive direction, because Whimstars are the only route to a free 5-star outfit in this game. The reason so many people believe it is that the payoff is deliberately hidden two steps away from the pickup, behind a system called the Heart of Infinity that most players open once, find greyed out, and never look at again.

What the Heart of Infinity actually is

Two things share the name, and knowing that saves confusion.

In the story, it is what Nikki carries. Infold’s own words on its official site: Nikki “traverses time and space to Miraland, bearing the Heart of Infinity — a volatile force powerful enough to reshape reality.”

In the menus, it is a node board you spend Whimstars on. Infold describes the loop the same way in notice after notice, and the verb it uses is infuse:

“Completing the newly available content in the main quest Golden Dust: Part II will unlock Heart of Infinity nodes as the chapters progress. Infuse Whimstars to obtain the full set of sketches for the 5-star Miracle Outfit Hymn to Dusk.”

What it has actually paid out

Every major version, one 5-star, plus abilities:

Read down that table and the shape is obvious: the Heart of Infinity is a free 5-star per major version, on the condition that you play the story and sweep the map. It is also, since December 2025, where your bow skills come from. That is not a side system.

Why your nodes are locked (and Whimstars are not the reason)

This is the single most common misunderstanding, and it is right there in Infold’s phrasing every time: “unlock Heart of Infinity nodes as the chapters progress.”

The gate is the main quest, not your Whimstar balance. If your board is greyed out, hoarding another two hundred Whimstars will not open a single node. Advance the chapter. Notice that 2.8 did this twice inside one version — the 16 July update opened nodes for some of the Hymn to Dusk sketches, and the 6 August mid-version update opened the rest, keyed to a second chunk of the same main quest.

Which gives a genuinely useful planning rule: when a new version’s story drops, clear the chapters before you sweep the zone. Sweeping first is not wasted, but it means walking back to a menu you could have been spending into all along.

The sketches are not the outfit

The second trap, and the reason people feel like the Heart of Infinity paid them nothing. Infold’s wording is precise and easy to skim past:

“Infuse Whimstars to obtain the full set of sketches for the 5-star Miracle Outfit Hymn to Dusk. Use Sunblaze Goldsand and other materials to craft the 5-star Miracle Outfit Hymn to Dusk.”

Two steps. Whimstars unlock the sketches. Crafting materials turn the sketches into clothes. And those materials do not come from the open world:

• 2.8 — Sunblaze Goldsand is exchanged with Riftlight Crystals in the Glow Chamber store, and Riftlight Crystals come from the Mira Crown Merit Arena.
• 2.0 — Divine Scales were exchanged with Dream Light, also in the Glow Chamber in the Mira Crown Merit Arena.
• 2.5 — Dreambloom of Yore and similar for Slumber by Blossoms.

So the honest description of a free 5-star in Infinity Nikki is: main story + Whimstars + arena. Three systems, and skipping the arena is the one that quietly stalls people who did everything else.

The weekly cap is what actually sets your timeline

Here is the number that decides whether you finish this version or next version, and it is official:

“Riftlight Crystals and Gildglow Prisms have weekly and total collection limits. The amount you can obtain will reset every Monday at 04:00 (server time).”

You cannot grind a free 5-star in a weekend. The arena currency is rate-limited by design, which means the correct behaviour is boring and effective: do the arena every week, even when you do not need anything from it right now. Whimstars keep. Weekly caps do not.

So how many Whimstars do you need?

Infold has never published a figure, for any version, and neither will we. What we can give you is the scale of the supply, from the community counts on our collectibles page: Wishfield held roughly 366 Whimstars at launch, Elderwood Forest around 211 after 2.4, Heaven’s Reach around 213 in 2.8.

The useful conclusion is a comparison rather than a number. Whimstars are the scarce collectible and Dews of Inspiration are the abundant one. Heaven’s Reach has about 213 Whimstars and roughly 1,180 Dews — five and a half times as many — and the Dews buy one 4-star outfit and a few Momo’s Cloaks per version, while the Whimstars buy the 5-star and your bow skills.

That is the whole priority argument in one line: if you only have an hour, spend it on Whimstars. FAQ

What are Whimstars used for in Infinity Nikki? They are infused into Heart of Infinity nodes to unlock sketches for 5-star Miracle Outfits, and since the December 2025 update to acquire Archery skills and Companion Skills.

Why are my Heart of Infinity nodes locked? Because of main-quest progress, not Whimstars. Infold’s notices say nodes unlock “as the chapters progress” — advancing the story is the gate.

I infused Whimstars and got a sketch, not an outfit. Why? That is how it works. Whimstars unlock the sketches; crafting materials turn the sketches into the outfit. In 2.8 that material is Sunblaze Goldsand, exchanged with Riftlight Crystals in the Glow Chamber store.

Where do Miracle Outfit crafting materials come from? The Mira Crown Merit Arena. Arena challenges pay Riftlight Crystals and Gildglow Prisms; Riftlight Crystals exchange for Miracle Outfit crafting materials such as Sunblaze Goldsand in the Glow Chamber.

Can I rush a free 5-star outfit? No. The arena currencies have weekly and total collection limits that reset Mondays at 04:00 server time. Run the arena every week regardless of whether you currently need the materials.

How many Whimstars does a Heart of Infinity node cost? Infold has not published node costs for any version, so we do not print a figure. What is known is supply: community counts put Wishfield at roughly 366 Whimstars at launch, Heaven’s Reach at roughly 213 in 2.8.

Are Whimstars or Dews of Inspiration more important? Whimstars, clearly. They are far rarer per region and they buy 5-star outfits and combat skills; Dews buy a 4-star outfit and cloaks from Ian the Cadenceborn each version.

Do Whimstars expire or reset? Nothing in Infold’s notices suggests they do — Whimstars are a collectible you infuse when nodes open. The thing that is time-limited is the arena currency, not your stars.
