Infinity Nikki for new players: the five systems that pay, and the hours everyone wastes first

By DayOneFix Editorial · August 24, 2026

Somebody on Bilibili washed a thousand animals. Their comment, 1,300 likes: “So what were my thousand washed animals for — do I just love bathing? No wonder everyone got that outfit so fast. I’m losing my mind.” The reply underneath, 522 likes, files it as folklore: “a weirdo has been going around washing animals and plucking their fur.”

That is what a first week in Infinity Nikki looks like without a map of the systems. Everything is interactive, everything gives you something, and the game is far too polite to tell you which of those things is on a weekly cap you cannot make up later and which is a thousand hours of bathing.

Here is the map. Five things that pay, and the specific hours people demonstrably waste.

Do this: the five systems that actually pay

1. Push the main story before you sweep the map

This is first because it gates almost everything else. Infold’s own phrasing, version after version: Heart of Infinity nodes “unlock as the chapters progress.” New regions unlock on the main quest. The Realm of Escalation unlocks on a world quest. Ian the Cadenceborn — your free 4-star outfit vendor — unlocks on a world quest.

A hoard of collectibles you cannot spend is not progress. If you have hundreds of Whimstars and a greyed-out board, the answer is chapters, not more sweeping. Full explanation of the Heart of Infinity here.

2. Do the weekly caps every week, even when you don’t need them

The single most damaging beginner habit is treating weekly content as optional until you want something from it. Two systems are hard-capped and cannot be caught up:

Read that last clause twice, because it is the answer to “where does a free player get pulls.” Not chests alone. The styling contest is a pull-currency faucet, and it is the one new players skip because it looks like a fashion minigame rather than an economy.

3. Chests, if you are saving to pull

Chests carry Diamonds and region-specific 3-star outfit sketches. One Bilibili commenter states the calculus better than any guide:

“I think open worlds are fun to explore yourself — following a guide is no different from clocking in at work. But I really am in a hurry for diamonds to pull, so I came for a chests-only guide.”

That is a legitimate way to play. If you want currency, do chests with a guide open and leave the rest of the sweep for later. Counts and what each collectible is for.

4. Starlit Moments, daily, in the Sea of Stars

The Sea of Stars is the social hub and it is where the reliable daily drip lives: Starlit Moments tasks pay Star Glimmer, and Starlit Crystals exchange for items in the Starlit Shop. Infold has iterated on this specifically to make it less of a chore — 1.11 added a Star Crystal Tree that automatically converts the day’s uncollected Starlit Crystals and Shards into fresh ones on its branches; ring the Starbell and they fall.

Daily content resets at 04:00 server time.

5. Get Pear-Pal, then go and redeem codes

Pear-Pal is obtained in the Sea of Stars, and until you have it you cannot use the redemption screen at all. Infold’s own instructions: open Pear-Pal from the icon in the top left, then Settings at the bottom, then Other, then Redeem Code.

New accounts leave real currency on the table here for weeks. Our dated codes list records every code with the date it first appeared publicly and where it came from, so you can tell an expired one from a mistyped one.

Skip this: the hours everyone loses

Each of these is a specific, measured complaint from the Chinese community, which has been warning new players about them since launch. These are community reports, not Infold statements — but they are the kind where a few thousand people agreeing is the whole point.

Hold the gather button. Do not tap every plant.

The top comment on the most-watched Chinese beginner-mistakes video — 1,488 likes — is somebody discovering they had been manually interacting with every single gathering node. The fix, from a 75-like reply:

“You don’t even need to jump — the ‘gather’ button next to it auto-picks from start to finish, just keep tapping it.”

If you have been walking up to individual plants, you have been playing a slower game than everyone else for no reason at all.

Do not grind grooming for a specific outfit

The thousand-animals story at the top of this page is the canonical example. Grooming, fishing and bug-catching all feed real crafting materials, and Infold adds new groomable animals every version — but they are a background activity, not a targeted route to a set. Do them while you are passing. Do not do them at something.

Do not chase the last few Dews of Inspiration

The highest-liked mechanics comment in the whole Chinese collection category, over 3,000 likes, is exactly this advice: if you are still short after following a route, leave it — the effort is large and the reward is almost nothing. The replies are people describing re-running an entire zone at 2:30am over two missing pickups.

There is also a mechanical reason you probably did not miss them: on mobile, Dews do not render until you are close, so you sweep an area, see nothing, and conclude you already collected it. More on that, with the counts.

Do not level everything

The most useful resource-planning comment we found, 236 likes, is a warning aimed at other guides:

“F2P guides keep telling people to complete and level some 4-star — that’s really misleading… And all these people levelling 3-stars: why, if you’re not short on tags? After a round or two of the Peak Contest the numbers force you onto other clothes anyway.”

The shorter version of the same rule, 1,955 likes on a separate video: level one 5-star per attribute; if you have no 5-star for an attribute, make do with a 4-star and stop at level 6; and prefer the pieces events hand you over the ones the main story hands you, because they score better.

The underlying trap is that Infinity Nikki’s styling scores are attribute-and-tag-based, so breadth beats depth for a long time. Pouring everything into one gorgeous set leaves you failing contests that ask for a different attribute.

Leave the overworld minigames alone for now

The top comment on the 52-million-play collection video, at nearly 6,000 likes, is simply: “everyone can find a minigame in this game that makes them see red.” The replies converge on the same three — the bicycle, the sheep herding, and the flower-ball catching. A separate beginner-guide comment puts it plainly: those are a Diamond source, and “if you’re new and not used to the controls, best not to touch them.”

They are not going anywhere. Come back when your abilities and your controls have settled.

On mobile, change the joystick to fixed mode

4,842 likes, from a comment that is half joke and half warning: “anyone who plays this on mobile and keeps going is a superhuman.” Others in the thread describe touch dropouts and fighting the jump tutorial. The one concrete fix that surfaces, 770 likes: set the joystick to fixed rather than floating. It does not solve mobile, but everybody who mentions it says it helped.

The myth: “pick the wrong starter set and your account is ruined”

There is a Chinese video with 234,000 plays whose premise is that the free 5-star choice early on is a trap and choosing wrong means restarting. Its own top comment, 1,553 likes, rejects it:

“It’s a dress-up game, I’ll pick whichever one I like. If I get stuck, I get stuck.”

And a 637-like reply gives the reasoning: pull for what you like — unless you are chasing high arena scores, one 5-star per attribute is enough, and the main story is easy to clear.

We are flagging it because it is a high-traffic page premise that the audience it targets actively pushes back on. Choosing the outfit you like is not a mistake. Choosing to ignore the weekly caps for a month is.

FAQ

What should I do first in Infinity Nikki? Push the main story. Region unlocks, Heart of Infinity nodes, the Realm of Escalation and Ian the Cadenceborn are all gated on quest progress, so collectibles you gather before those open are collectibles you cannot spend yet.

How do free players get pulls in Infinity Nikki? Three routes that are officially documented: chests and exploration for Diamonds, the Mira Crown Styling Contest for Sparklites which the Crystal Exchange turns into Resonite and Revelation Crystals, and event tracks. The styling contest is the one most new players skip.

What is the daily reset time? 04:00 server time. Weekly caps in the Mira Crown Merit Arena reset Mondays at 04:00 server time.

Why can’t I redeem codes? Because the redemption screen lives inside Pear-Pal, and Pear-Pal only unlocks after you obtain it in the Sea of Stars. Once you have it: top-left icon, Settings, Other, Redeem Code.

Should I level every outfit I get? No. The strongest community consensus is one levelled 5-star per attribute, a 4-star capped around level 6 where you have no 5-star, and no investment in 3-stars unless you are short on a tag. Breadth beats depth because contests ask for different attributes.

Is grooming animals worth it? As a passing activity, yes — it drops crafting materials. As a targeted grind for a specific outfit, the community’s most-shared cautionary tale is a player who washed a thousand animals for nothing.

Did I ruin my account by choosing the wrong free 5-star? No. The most-liked response to that claim is that unless you are chasing high arena scores, one 5-star per attribute is enough and the main story clears easily. Pick the one you like.

Is Infinity Nikki playable on mobile? Yes, and the Chinese community is loud about it being the hardest way to play. The one concrete setting people recommend is switching the joystick from floating to fixed.

Which minigames should I avoid early? The Chinese consensus names three overworld ones — the bicycle, the sheep herding and the flower-ball catching. They pay Diamonds and they will still be there once your controls have settled.
