Whimstars, Dews of Inspiration and chests: what each one is actually for, and how many exist

By DayOneFix Editorial · August 24, 2026

It is half past two in the morning, you have followed a route video across an entire zone, and you are two Dews of Inspiration short. Somebody on Bilibili has already written your exact feelings down — “finished Breezy Meadow two short, felt like the sky fell” — and further down the thread somebody corrects them: not two short. Just one.

Route videos are extraordinary work and they are not the problem. The problem is the layer above them: nobody tells you how many things a zone contains, so you cannot tell “I missed one” from “that was all of them”, and nobody tells you what each collectible is actually for, so you cannot tell which shortfall is worth another hour.

That is what this page is. Counts, uses, and the categories worth abandoning. It is not a route and it is not a pin map — the route videos are their authors’ labour, tile by tile, and redrawing them in English would be taking the work and leaving the credit. Go watch theirs. This is for knowing what you are looking at when you do.

The four categories, and what Infold says each is for

This is the part that is genuinely hard to find in Chinese, because the community treats it as assumed knowledge. It is not assumed knowledge in Infold’s own update notices, where the sinks are stated outright.

CollectibleOfficial English nameWhat it is spent on
奇想星WhimstarsInfused into Heart of Infinity nodes for 5-star Miracle Outfit sketches and for abilities
灵感露珠Dews of InspirationTraded to Ian the Cadenceborn for free 4-star outfits, Momo’s Cloaks and records
宝箱chestsRegion-specific 3-star outfit sketches
打卡点see below — it is not a resourcePhotography

Whimstars go into the Heart of Infinity, and that is not a small sink

The most-liked dismissal of Whimstars on Bilibili says “honestly the stars and the dew don’t give you much benefit.” Infold’s own notices say otherwise, version after version, in almost identical language:

And it is not only clothes. The December 2025 update added Heart of Infinity nodes where you “use Whimstars to acquire Archery skills and Companion Skills as well as clothing sketches.”

So the honest summary is: Whimstars are how a free player earns 5-star outfits and combat abilities. They are the least glamorous collectible and the one with the highest ceiling. If you are going to over-collect one thing, this is the one.

Dews of Inspiration are the dragon tax

The community explanation is funnier and completely correct — one commenter puts it as “if it weren’t for trading with that dumb dragon for clothes, who would go hunting for these things.” The dragon has a name and Infold names the exchange every version:

Earlier, in 1.9, Dews also bought records for the Home Gramophone from Kilo the Cadenceborn. One collectible, one shopkeeper, a fresh stock every version.

Chests are the diamond route

Infold’s phrasing for 2.8: “explore chests scattered across Heaven’s Reach to obtain the 3-star outfit sketches Stellar Banquet and Dreamveil Hymn.” Chests also carry Diamonds, which is why a whole separate genre of chest-only guide exists. One Bilibili commenter states the motive with unusual clarity:

“I think open worlds are fun to explore yourself — following a guide is no different from clocking in at work. But I really am in a hurry for diamonds to pull, so I came for a chests-only guide.”

If you are collecting to fund the gacha, chests are the category to prioritise and the one worth doing with a guide open. Dews and Whimstars pay out in clothes and abilities, not currency.

打卡点 is a community label, not a game system

Chinese completion videos list a fourth category, 打卡点 (“check-in points”), alongside the three above. It is worth being precise about what that is, because it is the one entry here that does not map cleanly onto anything Infold names.

What Infold does name is the Snapshot Hourglass — the object you interact with at a scenic spot to take a shot, which then goes into Momo’s Camera. (That is Infold’s English, confirmed against 留影沙漏 in the matching Chinese patch note.) Separately Infold names Warp Spires (流轉之柱), the fast-travel points, and runs whole events for activating them — 2.0’s “Tracing the Land” paid Resonite Crystals, Energy Crystals and growth materials for activating Warp Spires across Itzaland.

We could not find an Infold statement that maps the guides’ 打卡点 label onto either system, so we are not going to assert it. What we can say is that neither is a currency. The Bilibili thread on out-of-bounds photo destinations is full of people describing them as places you reach with the right outfit ability and photograph — “I went with the fish outfit, there are lots of Snapshot Hourglasses there.” Treat this category as scenery, not economy, and do it when you feel like it.

The counts

Everything below is community measurement, not published by Infold — no official per-zone census exists. What makes it usable is that Chinese completionists encode running counters into their video chapter titles, which makes the numbers checkable against each other rather than taken on trust.

Wishfield, at launch

From 小蛇变身丶, the only creator who split the three types into separate guides:

AreaDews of InspirationChestsWhimstars
纪念山地3177
Florawish3025967
Breezy Meadow4649388
Stoneville1584826
Abandoned District51313696
Wishing Woods45811082
Total1,926453366

(Florawish, Breezy Meadow, Stonewoods, Wishing Woods are the four areas Infold’s own site names as making up Wishfield; Stoneville and the Abandoned District are areas inside Stonewoods. We could not find an Infold English name for 纪念山地, so it stays in Chinese rather than becoming our invention.)

Two of these are independently confirmed. 猎猫人老贾, a separate creator running a different route with a different chapter scheme, records Stoneville as 26 Whimstars and 158 Dews — an exact match on both — and Florawish’s Dews as 276 plus 26 in a side area, which is 302, also exact.

One of them disagrees, and the disagreement is the useful part. The same creator counts 60 Whimstars in Florawish where the other counts 67. That is not an error: patch 1.5 added Whimstars to an already-finished launch zone. One commenter names it directly — “Florawish quietly gained several more Whimstars” — and the big completion video carries a chapter literally titled “newly added Whimstars (added in 1.5)”.

So: every per-zone count is a count as of a version. If a number is off by a handful, suspect the patch before you suspect yourself.

One more check worth knowing about, because you will find different numbers elsewhere. The six rows above sum exactly to their own totals — 1,926 Dews, 453 chests, 366 Whimstars — and those totals independently match the game-wide figures two other sites state for the launch version. That is about as good as unofficial data gets. But the big English wikis list higher per-area figures for Breezy Meadow in particular, around 502 Dews and 92 Whimstars, which roll up to roughly 1,955 and 370. Both sets are probably right, for different patches. If you are counting against a guide, match the guide’s version first.

Later regions

From 莴苣某人’s running counters, which are the community’s de facto census. Both figures are shown as “at release” and “after the later patch that added more”:

RegionWhimstar-typeDew-type
Elderwood Forest (2.0)210, then 211 after 2.41,161, then 1,180 after 2.4
Spira (2.0)36, then 39 after 2.3268, then 285 after 2.3
Boneyard (2.5)158, then 163 after 2.6516, then 558 after 2.6
Heaven’s Reach (2.8)2131,180
Danqing Island (1.8)68 Whim Jades389 Danqing Jade Souls
Wanxiang Realm (2.2)68 Whim Lanterns365 Wanxiang Bells
Serpentine Ruins (dungeon)429

Look at the last row of the main regions and then at the Wishfield table. Heaven’s Reach on its own — one 2.8 region — has more Whimstars than the entire launch map, and matches the whole of Elderwood Forest for Dews. The most-liked reaction to that in Chinese is a commenter saying they fainted when they saw the numbers, and their own reply: “2.0 really takes the grind back to launch day.” The grind did not get gentler. It got bigger.

The renaming trap

This is the single most practical thing on the page and almost nobody writes it down. Every new region renames both collectibles. Search for “Whimstar count Wanxiang Realm” and you will find nothing, because in the Wanxiang Realm the Whimstar is called a Whim Lantern.

RegionWhimstar-familyDew-family
Wishfield and the main mapWhimstars (奇想星)Dews of Inspiration (灵感露珠)
Danqing Island (1.8)Whim Jades (奇想玉琚)Danqing Jade Souls (丹青玉魄)
Wanxiang Realm (2.2)Whim Lanterns (奇想华灯)Wanxiang Bells (万相金铃)

Both of those pairs are Infold’s own English, from its own notices. The Firework Isles and Serenity Island have their own renamed pairs too; we could not confirm Infold’s English for those two, so they are absent rather than guessed.

The tell that always works: the Chinese prefix 奇想 (“Whim”) marks the Whimstar family, whatever the region calls it. And the exchange NPC changes with the name — Whim Lanterns and Wanxiang Bells go to Buzzy in the Wanxiang Realm; Whim Jades and Danqing Jade Souls go to Zhou Suchan at the Danqing Treasures shop.

The advice that saves the most hours: stop chasing the last few Dews

The highest-liked mechanics comment in the entire Chinese Infinity Nikki collection category — over three thousand likes, sitting under a video with fifty-two million plays — is this:

“If you’re still missing Dews after following the guide, just leave it. First, it wastes energy for almost no reward. Second, you can calmly give the devs feedback asking for an item that auto-reveals leftovers once you’re past 80% or 90% collection.”

The replies are a small monument to what ignoring that costs: “so upset I couldn’t sleep, ran the whole route again at 2:30am.” Another thread, 594 likes: “ran the whole route and found I was two Dews short, and the sky fell.”

And there is a mechanical reason it happens to you specifically, which one commenter diagnoses precisely: on mobile, Dews do not render until you are close. From any distance they are simply not drawn, so you sweep an area, see nothing, and reasonably conclude you already collected it. If you are playing on a phone and your count is short, the miss is far more likely to be a render distance problem than a route problem — and re-running the same route at the same speed will reproduce it exactly.

Weigh it against the sink. Dews buy one 4-star outfit and a few cloaks per version, and the ceiling is the exchange stock, not your inventory. Being twenty Dews short of a total costs you nothing. Being twenty Whimstars short can cost you a Heart of Infinity node, which is where the 5-star Miracle Outfits are. Spend the extra hour on the category with the sink.

The one official count we could find

Infold does not publish per-zone collectible totals. It does occasionally publish a number by accident, in patch notes, and there is one worth knowing:

“Optimized the achievement Path of Itzaland by reducing the required number of activated Warp Spires in Itzaland from 45 to 35.” — 3 December 2025 update

So Itzaland has at least 45 Warp Spires, and Infold decided that asking for all of them was too much. That is also the clearest signal you will get that region completion targets are tuned rather than fixed.

FAQ

What are Whimstars for in Infinity Nikki? They are infused into Heart of Infinity nodes, which unlock sketches for 5-star Miracle Outfits and, since December 2025, Archery skills and Companion Skills. Infold states this in its own update notices for 2.0, 2.5, 2.8 and the December 2025 patch.

What do I do with Dews of Inspiration? Trade them to Ian the Cadenceborn after completing the world quest “Hello, Ian the Cadenceborn”. Every version stocks him with something new — 4-star Ability Outfits, Momo’s Cloaks, and in 1.9 records for the Home Gramophone.

What is in Infinity Nikki chests? Region-specific 3-star outfit sketches, plus Diamonds. In 2.8, Heaven’s Reach chests carry the sketches for Stellar Banquet and Dreamveil Hymn. Chests are the collectible to prioritise if you are saving for pulls.

How many collectibles are in Wishfield? Community counts, cross-checked in two places for two of the areas: roughly 1,926 Dews of Inspiration, 453 chests and 366 Whimstars at launch. Later patches added more — 1.5 alone added Whimstars to Florawish — so treat any total as a total for a version.

How many Whimstars are in Heaven’s Reach? Community counting puts it at 213 Whimstars and 1,180 Dews for 2.8, from the most-watched completion series in Chinese. Infold has published no figure.

Why does my collectible count not match the guide? Two likely reasons. Either the guide predates a patch that added more — this has happened to Florawish, Elderwood Forest, Spira and the Boneyard — or, on mobile, you are walking past Dews that have not rendered yet.

Why can’t I find a Whimstar count for the Wanxiang Realm? Because there are no Whimstars there. Every region renames the collectible: in the Wanxiang Realm they are Whim Lanterns, on Danqing Island they are Whim Jades. The Chinese prefix 奇想 marks the family everywhere.

Is it worth 100% collecting every zone? For Whimstars, yes — that is your free 5-star and ability pipeline. For chests, yes if you want Diamonds. For Dews, the Chinese community’s strongest consensus advice is to stop when the route is done and let the stragglers go.

Does this page have collection routes or pin maps? No, deliberately. Those are their creators’ work. This page gives you the counts and the mechanics so you know when a zone is genuinely finished.

Region names are Infold’s own: Wishfield’s four areas — Florawish, Breezy Meadow, Stonewoods and Wishing Woods — are named as such on the official site’s Worlds section, whose Traditional Chinese counterpart names the same four as 花願鎮、微風綠野、石樹田、祈願樹林; the same page pairs Spira / 蝸牛城, Elderwood Forest / 巨木之森 and the Boneyard / 埋骨地 inside Itzaland. Snapshot Hourglass / 留影沙漏 and Warp Spire / 流轉之柱 are confirmed by putting Infold’s English 6 August 2026 patch notes and 16 July 2026 patch notes beside its own Traditional Chinese 8月7日停服維護說明 and 7月17日停服維護說明 — the same documents in two languages, sentence for sentence. Community, named and counted. Play counts measured 24 August 2026. The Wishfield table is from 小蛇变身丶’s three single-type guides — 灵感露珠全收集攻略 (~956,000 plays), 宝箱全收集攻略 (~538,000) and 奇想星全收集攻略 (~179,000) — with the per-area figures read from their own chapter titles. The independent confirmation of Stoneville (26 Whimstars, 158 Dews) and Florawish (302 Dews) is from 猎猫人老贾’s full-collection run (~982,000 plays), a different creator on a different route. The later-region counters are from 莴苣某人, whose per-version full-collection series is the category — 1.0 全收集 at roughly 52.1 million plays, 2.0 巨木之森+蜗牛城 (~21.9M), 2.8 磐城 (~7.7M), 2.5 埋骨地 (~8.3M), 1.8 丹青屿 (~8.1M), 2.2 万相境 (~4.4M) and the 巨蛇遗迹 dungeon. The 1.5 additions to Florawish are attested both by a 1,331-like comment naming “the four Whimstars added to Florawish in 1.5” and by a chapter in 莴苣某人’s own 1.0 video titled as newly added in 1.5. The advice to abandon leftover Dews is the ~3,144-like top mechanics comment on the 1.0 video; the mobile render-distance diagnosis and the “trade with that dragon for clothes” line are from the comment thread on the Dews guide; the “in a hurry for diamonds” quote is from the chests guide’s comments; the “I fainted at the counts” reaction is from the 2.0 video.
