Mistfall Hunter: "Your GPU Is Not Supported"

If Mistfall Hunter tells you your GPU is not supported, one of three things is true: your card is genuinely below the line, your machine is handing the game the wrong GPU, or the driver is reporting a capability level the game rejects. Only the first one is unfixable.
The actual requirement
Straight from the Steam store listing and Bellring’s Official Launch FAQ:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| CPU | Intel Core i7-4770 / AMD Ryzen 5 1400 | Intel Core i7-9700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 12 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | NVIDIA GTX 1060 / AMD RX 580 | NVIDIA RTX 2070 / AMD RX 5700 XT |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 45 GB (SSD strongly recommended) | 45 GB (SSD strongly recommended) |
DirectX 12 is the part that catches people. A card can be fast enough on paper and still fail, because the game is a DX12-only Unreal Engine 5 title. Anything that tops out at DirectX 11 — older GPUs, most integrated graphics from that era — will not be waved through no matter how much VRAM it has.
Note also: the Steam listing is Windows-only. There is no macOS build and no native Linux build.
The laptop trap
This is the single most common false alarm on any UE5 launch, and it’s worth checking before you conclude your hardware is dead.
A gaming laptop has two GPUs. If Windows hands the game the integrated Intel or AMD chip instead of your discrete RTX/RX card, the game reads the integrated one’s capabilities and refuses. Fix:
- Windows SettingsSystemDisplayGraphicsAdd desktop appOptionsHigh performance
(At the Add desktop app step, point it at the Mistfall Hunter executable.) - Or in the NVIDIA app / AMD Adrenalin, set a per-application profile forcing the discrete GPU
- Then confirm with
dxdiag: the Display tab should list your discrete card, and the DirectX 12 feature levels should be listed under it
If your laptop is plugged into a dock or an external monitor wired to the iGPU, that alone can route the game to the wrong chip.
Where this error came from
Worth knowing when you’re searching for other people’s fixes: the exact phrase “your gpu is not supported in this test” shows up in a Steam thread from May 2025 — during a playtest build, note the “in this test” wording — and a separate “GPU not compatible” thread from September 2025 has a reply that just says “same here. gpu not supported.”
Neither thread got a developer reply and neither got a fix. So if you’re hunting for a magic Bellring statement about this error: there isn’t one. The checks above are the honest ones.
Related crashes that aren’t a GPU rejection
Two failure modes get confused with this error:
- A generic UE “fatal error” with no GPU wording. Different problem, different fix — see Mistfall Hunter fatal error fixes.
- Crashing a minute or two in on Linux / Steam Deck. The Proton issue for Mistfall Hunter documents a D3D12 compute-pipeline failure with the error
Required WaveSize range [64, 64], but supported range is [32, 32]on an NVIDIA RTX 4080 under vkd3d-proton, with the process dying after 90–120 seconds. That’s a translation-layer mismatch, not your hardware — and no workaround is listed in the issue.
If your card really is below the floor
There is no low-spec mode that unlocks unsupported hardware, and no launch option that bypasses the check. What you can do is make sure the rest of the machine isn’t the bottleneck when you do upgrade — the performance and settings page covers what actually moves frame rate in this game, and it’s not what you’d guess.

The whole specification table (operating system, processor, memory, GTX 1060 or RX 580, DirectX 12, 45 GB with an SSD strongly recommended) and the Windows-only platform line come from the Steam store page and Bellring’s official launch FAQ. The error string itself comes from two Steam discussion threads: “your gpu is not supported in this test” from May 2025 — note that “in this test” is playtest-era wording — and “GPU not compatible” from September 2025. Neither thread has a developer reply, which is why “Bellring has never published anything about this error” is a conclusion we reached after checking rather than a guess. The error message, hardware environment and the 90-to-120-second death described in the Linux and Steam Deck section are taken verbatim from Proton issue #10028. The laptop dual-GPU triage — the Windows graphics preference setting, per-application driver profiles, verifying with dxdiag, removing ReShade and other injectors — is standard practice for UE5 games and Bellring has issued no such instructions for this one. It is here because it explains most laptop false positives, not because anyone official said so.
