Clawed multiplayer not working? The developer says it was their fault, and here is what has shipped

Lag or disconnects on launch day?
Half the launch-week "server errors" we trace are routing problems between you and the game servers, not the servers themselves. A game booster reroutes that path. GearUP is the one we point people to: it supports most new releases within a day of launch.

If Clawed’s co-op did not work for you at launch, that was not your setup. Flatrock Games said so directly, two days after release:
“Playing internally, we felt our co-op systems were holding up. We were clearly wrong.”
That line is from Clawed — Our Next Move. Your feedback will not be ignored., posted 14 August 2026. It is an unusually plain admission, and it changes what this page should be: not a generic PC checklist, but a record of what the developer has actually fixed and what is still outstanding.
Launch record — 5 September 2026
Clawed shipped on 13 August 2026 at $19.99, Windows only. On 5 September 2026, the Steam rating was Mixed (388 positive / 353 negative on 5 September). By that date, Flatrock Games had pushed five patches — 1.01 (15 Aug), 1.02 (16 Aug), 1.03 (20 Aug), 1.04 (27 Aug) and 1.05 (29 Aug) — mostly quest, save and co-op fixes; 1.04 fixed co-op respawning at the pier instead of the last checkpoint and joining players spawning at the pier, 1.05 fixed a GPU-driver crash tied to the Toy puzzle. In the 100 most recent negative English reviews sampled on 5 September, co-op and connection problems were the top complaint (24), followed by black screens on load (17), save problems (17) and stutter (16). Valve’s Steam Deck verdict recorded on 5 September was Unsupported. Everything below was written around launch and is kept as the record; where a section said “unverified until the game ships”, this block is the verification.
What the developer named as its immediate priorities
From the same post, in this order:
- Co-op joining issues
- Checkpoint respawn issues
- Collision and areas where players can become stuck around the island
After those, Flatrock says it will change core systems: “improving interactions, redesigning the save system to incorporate an auto-save feature, and improving navigation and direction through certain areas of the park.” Content updates that were already announced are still planned, but the studio states plainly that fixing the game comes first.
What has actually shipped
Patch 1.01 — 14 August
- “We have also reworked some backend code to assist with game joining issues” ← the one that matters for multiplayer
- Dino spawning fixed in Monster of the Deep
- Marine Conservation Quest showing blank at the Docks — fixed
- Megalodon Lagoon duplicate secure panel — fixed
- 9mm ammo pickup increased to 12; rifle and shotgun damage increased
- Fewer dinos in the aviary, and reduced Alpha Deinonychus damage, both after feedback
Patch 1.02 — 16 August
- Death animations not playing correctly in co-op — fixed
- An Unstuck button added to the menu ← use this instead of restarting when you are wedged in terrain
- Carnivore Kingdom Quest could be broken — fixed
- Meg lagoon water not rendering correctly — fixed
- Final Quest bug where some players could not enter the CEO office — fixed
- Gun Rack hiding weapons after they spawn — fixed
Both posts end the same way: “A major co-op patch is in the works.” That is the one to wait for if joining still fails after 1.02.
So what should you actually do
First, confirm you are on 1.02 or later. Two patches landed within four days of release, and the joining-related work is in both. If Steam has not pulled the update, restart the client.
Use the Unstuck button. If your problem is being stuck in the world rather than being unable to join, 1.02 gave you a menu option for exactly that — it did not exist at launch, so guides written in the first two days will not mention it.
Then, and only then, the ordinary PC checks. These resolve corrupt installs, blocked network access, unstable hosts and overlay conflicts. The launch guidance checked on 17 August 2026 put these second, after updating the game:
- Verify game files in Steam — Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- Update your graphics driver, then restart the PC.
- Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ runtimes (2015–2022, x64 and x86), then reboot.
- Check firewall permission for both Steam and Clawed.
- Make the most stable connection the host — stop downloads, prefer wired.
- Rebuild the room — everyone leaves, host restarts, fresh invites.
- Turn off overlays temporarily, including recording and chat overlays.
What is still not known
- The co-op player cap. Neither Steam nor Flatrock Games publishes a maximum party size. A ScreenRant report says most modes support up to four players but cites no source, and the developer has not confirmed it. Full detail on co-op →
- When the major co-op patch lands. Flatrock says “some of this work will take us a little longer, but we will move as quickly as we can” — no date.
- Error-code meanings. Flatrock has not documented any. If you see a guide explaining a specific Clawed error code, it was invented.
Context: the demo had the same problem, and it was flagged
This is not a surprise that came out of nowhere. In a December 2025 Q&A the studio wrote that players who had “played Clawed demo in Co-op has probably seen several key areas that still needed work”, and that it decided to “go back and rework some systems entirely.” The rework went in before release — and, by the studio’s own 14 August account, still was not enough.
