Mistfall Hunter Blackarrow: Archer or Hunter, and What Got Nerfed
By DayOneFix Editorial · August 24, 2026
The Blackarrow has one weapon and two archetypes: Archer, which rewards fully charged shots and burst, and Hunter, which stacks ailments and extends them with basic attacks. Pick Archer if you want to delete someone from range; pick Hunter if you want to make someone lose a fight slowly.
Both are strong right now, and Bellring has said in writing that it is bringing them down. Read the nerf section before you commit gear.
Archer vs Hunter
The split is documented in DevNote #6:
Archer “fires fully charged arrows that possess excellent energy recovery capabilities, giving the Blackarrow impressive sustained combat potential. This is paired with a Mysticfly Arrow detonation mechanic to unleash massive burst damage.”
The load-bearing phrase is fully charged. Archer’s payoff — energy back, and the detonation — is gated on holding the draw. DevNote #7 leaned into that further, changing the Sepsis talent on Splatter Arrow so its damage increase “now requires a fully charged bow to trigger,” while raising the splash multiplier “to better reward the Archer playstyle’s charged-shot gameplay.” Archer is the archetype that punishes you for panic-firing.
Hunter “focuses on an ailment-based system. Its various debuff arrows deliver exceptional status effects, and landing basic attacks can extend the duration of these debuffs, further magnifying the build’s damage-over-time and crowd-control capabilities.”
Hunter went the opposite way in the same patch: the Power Infusion talent on Featherlight Arrow previously increased the range of fully charged shots, and Bellring “removed the fully charged requirement entirely and further expanded the effective range, making it far more synergistic with the Hunter playstyle’s high-frequency hit demands.”
So the two archetypes now diverge on rhythm, not just on damage type. Archer wants few, perfect, fully drawn shots. Hunter wants many quick ones that keep a timer alive.
The named skills and talents
Everything below appears by name in official Bellring notes, which is the only reason it appears here:
| Name | Type | What Bellring says about it |
|---|---|---|
| Mysticfly Arrow | Skill | Archer’s detonation mechanic; True DMG scaling reduced in DevNote #7, cooldown increased August 12 |
| Steel Arrow | Skill | Impact removed from uncharged shots and reduced on charged shots August 6; cooldown increased August 12 |
| Splatter Arrow | Skill | Archer side; its Sepsis talent now requires a full draw |
| Featherlight Arrow | Skill | Hunter side; its Power Infusion talent dropped the full-draw requirement |
| Paralysis Arrow | Skill | Exhausted-state duration reduced in DevNote #7 |
| Sonic Arrow | Skill | Cooldown “greatly reduced” August 12 — the one clear buff in that patch |
| Dodge Power Shot | Skill | Cooldown slightly increased August 12 |
| Dodge Rapid Shot | Skill | Arrows no longer incorrectly carry impact, fixed August 12 |
| Shadow Step | Skill | Charge-speed boost on breaking Stealth toned down in DevNote #7 |
| Sepsis | Talent | Splatter Arrow splash damage, now full-draw gated, multiplier raised |
| Power Infusion | Talent | Featherlight Arrow range, full-draw requirement removed |
Note what that table is not: it is not a recommended skill loadout. Bellring publishes changes, not builds, and we have not tested a Blackarrow build ourselves.
What has been nerfed, in order
The Blackarrow has been cut in three consecutive rounds. If you are copying a build guide, check its date against this list.
DevNote #7, pre-launch. Bellring’s diagnosis: “their performance in solo mode was slightly overturned, with certain skills and talents becoming overbearing in high-tier gear matches.” Mysticfly Arrow’s True DMG scaling cut to reduce how far it pierced high-tier gear affixes; Paralysis Arrow’s Exhausted duration cut; Shadow Step’s post-stealth charge speed cut.
August 6. Steel Arrow lost impact on uncharged shots entirely and had it reduced on fully charged shots. Two bug fixes landed too — abnormal displacement when jumping after a side dodge, and a collision prompt appearing when aiming at Stealthed units.
August 12. Cooldowns up on Mysticfly Arrow, Steel Arrow and Dodge Power Shot; down, sharply, on Sonic Arrow. And the blunt one: “Reduced Blackarrow’s PvP damage multiplier in solo mode; PvE damage remains unchanged.”
That last line is the most important sentence written about this class. A multiplier applied to one mode only is a developer conceding the class was straightforwardly too good at killing people while solo — and it left PvE damage alone, so grinding was never the problem.
What is coming next
DevNote #8, August 20, puts the Blackarrow in two lists at once.
On difficulty, it is named alongside the Sword & Shield Mercenary’s Shield build and the Sorcerer as having “a very high skill ceiling” — Bellring’s stated plan is to “bridge the gap between these high skill caps, while ensuring the mastery curve feels smoother.” That is a warning to new players as much as a promise.
On strength, the direction is down: “Blackarrow and Sorcerer currently possess exceptional initiation tools and damage output while retaining safe kiting and survival capabilities. We’ll continue to leverage data and match observation to bring ranged classes back down to a healthy, balanced state.” Bellring says it has “already begun implementing moderate nerfs to their burst damage output” and is now evaluating ranged mobility and how map terrain amplifies it.
The one thing coming that isn’t a nerf: the Javelin. DevNote #8 closed with concept art for the Blackarrow’s second weapon, “currently in full production,” with no release date. The Official Launch Announcement had already deferred it: the new weapon “will launch in a future season.”
One old rumour, settled
If you played the betas you may remember Bellring announcing in DevNote #1 that it had “rebuilt Blackarrow’s shooting mechanics from the ground up to prevent abuse.” That sounded like an aiming overhaul.
It wasn’t. Asked directly in Dev Team FAQ #1, Bellring answered: “This refers to a few technical adjustments aimed at preventing certain forms of unintended exploitation. These changes are purely backend and will not affect normal gameplay or how the class feels.”
FAQ
Is Archer or Hunter better for Blackarrow? Bellring has not ranked them, and DevNote #7 buffed the identity of both in the same patch — Archer toward fully charged shots via Sepsis, Hunter toward high-frequency hits via Power Infusion. Archer is burst on a full draw; Hunter is ailments extended by basic attacks. Choose on rhythm, not on a tier list.
Is Blackarrow good in solo? It was too good. Bellring said its solo performance was “slightly overturned” before launch, then on August 12 reduced its PvP damage multiplier in solo mode specifically while leaving PvE damage unchanged. It remains one of the classes Bellring says is scheduled for further ranged nerfs.
Is Blackarrow good for beginners? DevNote #8 names it as one of three things in the game with “a very high skill ceiling.” Bellring intends to smooth that curve, but as of August 2026 it is an explicit hard pick.
Does the Blackarrow get a second weapon? Yes, a Javelin, shown as concept art in DevNote #8 on August 20 and described as “in full production.” No date has been announced.
Did Blackarrow’s aiming change? Not in a way you can feel. The “rebuilt from the ground up” line from DevNote #1 was clarified in Dev Team FAQ #1 as purely backend anti-exploit work that “will not affect normal gameplay or how the class feels.”
