When does Halloween: The Game release? Three different dates — and only one of them is the release date

By DayOneFix Editorial · August 24, 2026

Halloween: The Game releases digitally on 8 September 2026. Two other dates get quoted as “the release date” and neither one is: 4 September 2026, 9 AM PT is Advance Access for digital Deluxe pre-orders, and 6 October 2026 is when the physical discs arrive. No unlock time has been published for 8 September — not for any platform, not for any region.

If you only remember one thing: the date you care about depends on which version you bought, and the phrase “Advance Access” is used by the official site to mean two completely different things.

The three dates

DateWhat actually happensWho it applies to
4 September 2026, 9 AM PTAdvance Access — you can play, four days ahead of everyone elseDigital Deluxe Edition pre-orders only
8 September 2026Full release. Time of day not publishedEveryone on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic
6 October 2026Physical editions in boxesPS5 and Xbox Series X physical Standard and Collector’s

The 8 September digital date comes from Steam’s own store data for appid 3219630, which still lists the game as coming soon with the date “Sep 8, 2026”. The 4 September Advance Access date and its 9 AM PT time come from the official pre-order announcement. The 6 October physical date comes from the official physical editions announcement.

Steam corroborates the Advance Access split independently: the Deluxe package on the store listing carries an “Advance Access / Starts Sep 4” marker and the line “play the game starting 4 days ahead of full release”, while the $39.99 Standard package carries no such marker. That is the same claim arriving from two directions, which is the standard we want before printing a date.

The Advance Access trap: it means two different things

This is the single most reliable way to end up disappointed on 4 September, and it is not the players’ fault — the official site genuinely uses the same two words for two unrelated things.

On the digital Deluxe Edition, Advance Access means early play. Four days of it, from 9 AM PT on 4 September.

On the physical editions, “Advance Access” refers to cosmetic items, not early play. The official physical editions announcement says so in as many words:

“The Advance Access cosmetic items can be instantly unlocked for players who purchase the physical editions”

Read that carefully. What the physical buyer gets instantly is the cosmetic items associated with Advance Access — not the ability to start playing before release. And since the physical editions do not arrive until 6 October, a month after the digital launch, early play would be arithmetically impossible anyway.

So: buying a physical Collector’s Edition does not get you in on 4 September. If early play is the thing you want, the only announced route to it is a digital Deluxe pre-order.

No unlock time has been announced for 8 September

Every date above is a date. Only one of them has a time attached, and it is the Advance Access one.

For 8 September, nothing has been published about when the game actually unlocks — no global simultaneous moment, no per-region local-midnight policy, no platform-specific timing for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam or Epic. Anyone showing you a countdown clock to a specific hour on 8 September has picked that hour themselves.

The same goes for preload: no preload window and no preload size have been announced for any platform.

Both of those are normal gaps this far out and both are the kind of thing that typically lands in the last week or two before launch. This page says “not announced” until an announcement exists, and then it will say what the announcement said.

What 4 September 9 AM PT converts to

The one time we do have is worth converting, because 9 AM Pacific on a Friday is late evening or the next morning in much of the world. These are straight conversions of the announced 9 AM PT, not separately announced regional times:

RegionAdvance Access begins
Pacific (PT)Fri 4 Sep, 9:00 AM

Platforms, and who is not getting it

Announced platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via both Steam and Epic, per the official Orange Grove Estates announcement.

Not on the list, and worth stating plainly because these questions come up every launch week:

Note the asymmetry on physical: the digital release covers four storefronts, but the 6 October boxed editions are PS5 and Xbox Series X only. There is no announced physical PC release.

Australia and New Zealand: there is no release date, because there is no release

This is the part that most date pages skip entirely, and it changes the answer completely for two countries.

Halloween: The Game was Refused Classification by the Australian Classification Board, on the stated ground that it “contains illicit drug use that is linked to an incentive or reward” — reported by Press Start Australia on 14 August 2026.

The publisher’s own statement, carried by VGC on 10 August 2026, is blunt about the consequence:

“Despite every effort on our part, the Australian Classifications Board has denied Halloween: The Game a rating. The denial was not based on the presence of the iconic slasher, Michael Myers, or the outstanding kills that can be performed in the game, but rather the presence of a controlled substance. Unfortunately, to our disappointment (and certainly yours) this means that we cannot sell the physical or digital product in both Australia and New Zealand.”

The substance in question is visible in Steam’s own content descriptors, which state that “Players can consume beer and smoke marijuana from their inventory.”

Whether this is being appealed or resubmitted has not been addressed by any source. Neither the publisher statement nor either report says. So for Australian and New Zealand players: no date, digital or physical, and no announced path to one.

What is genuinely not announced

FAQ

When does Halloween: The Game come out? Digitally on 8 September 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic. No unlock time of day has been published for that date. Physical editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X follow on 6 October 2026.

What time does Halloween: The Game unlock on 8 September? Not announced. No global unlock moment, per-region policy or platform-specific time has been published for 8 September. The only announced time attached to this launch is the 9 AM PT start of Advance Access on 4 September.

How do I play Halloween: The Game early? Pre-order the digital Deluxe Edition. Advance Access starts 4 September 2026 at 9 AM PT, four days before the 8 September release, and Steam’s Deluxe package carries the matching “play the game starting 4 days ahead of full release” line. The Standard Edition has no such entitlement.

Does the physical Collector’s Edition let me play early? No. On the physical editions, “Advance Access” refers to cosmetic items that unlock instantly, not to early play — and the physical editions release on 6 October, a month after the digital launch.

Is there a preload for Halloween: The Game? Not announced. No preload window or download size has been published for any platform.

Is Halloween: The Game coming to Australia or New Zealand? No. The Australian Classification Board refused it a rating over drug use linked to an incentive or reward, and the publisher has stated it cannot sell the physical or digital product in either country. No appeal or resubmission has been announced.

Is Halloween: The Game on Switch, PS4 or Xbox One? None of the three has been announced. The platform list is PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Epic.

Sources

The 8 September 2026 digital date and the coming-soon status come from Steam’s own store data for appid 3219630 (store listing), checked 24 August 2026, along with the Deluxe package’s “Advance Access / Starts Sep 4” marker and its “play the game starting 4 days ahead of full release” line, the absence of that marker on the Standard package, the Windows-only platform list, and the content descriptor about beer and marijuana. The 4 September 9 AM PT Advance Access start is from the official pre-order announcement; the 6 October physical date and the quoted line about Advance Access cosmetic items unlocking instantly for physical buyers are from the official physical editions announcement; the platform list is from the official Orange Grove Estates announcement — all checked 24 August 2026.

The Australian refusal and its stated ground come from Press Start Australia, 14 August 2026; the publisher statement is quoted as carried by VGC, 10 August 2026. Neither report names the New Zealand classification body, so this page does not either.

The timezone table is arithmetic on the single announced 9 AM PT figure, not a set of separately announced regional times. Everything this page marks “not announced” — the 8 September unlock time, preload, post-pre-order Deluxe eligibility for Advance Access, Epic pricing, and any Australia/New Zealand appeal — means all of the sources above were checked on 24 August 2026 and none of them contains it.
