Halloween: The Game crossplay: how to add friends by code, party up and play across PS5, Xbox and PC

By DayOneFix Editorial · August 24, 2026

Yes. Halloween: The Game has crossplay across all of its announced platforms — PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic).

The strongest citable source is not a tweet, it is Microsoft’s own storefront. The Xbox store listing carries the capability flags “Xbox cross-platform multiplayer” and “Xbox cross-platform co-op”. Those flags are first-party store metadata rather than marketing copy, which makes them the hardest pre-launch evidence available for a feature like this.

The official account backs it up in plain words. The @HalloweenTVG post on X states that “Halloween: The Game will support crossplay across all available platforms.” One caveat on that one, stated up front: we could not load the post directly and recovered its wording through search indexing, consistently across two independent lookups, so we treat the text as reliable but we have not verified the posting date and will not print one.

Third, the developer said it in a Q&A. IllFonic’s Jordan Mathewson, in answers relayed by Horror Geek Life on 16 July 2026: “An in-game friends list will be implemented, with cross-play available as well.” That is a paraphrasing outlet rather than a first-party page, which is why it ranks third here — but three sources of three different kinds pointing the same way is a settled answer.

How to play with a friend on another platform

Crossplay has been live since Deluxe Advance Access opened on 4 September, 9 AM PT, so this is no longer a pre-launch promise. The flow, as documented by players in the first weekend:

  1. Open the Friends menu — the three-person icon in the top-left of the main menu.
  2. Switch to the second tab. Your friend code is shown there. Send it to the other player.
  3. They enter your code in the same tab on their platform (PS5, Xbox or PC). Same-platform friends do not need a code — the first tab lists your Steam, PlayStation or Xbox friends automatically.
  4. Invite them to your party. Once everyone has accepted, the host can start a private match with the party, or take the party into matchmaking.

Two catches reported by players during advance access — one fixed at launch, one still open:

The Steam listing does not carry a crossplay category

Worth stating plainly, because someone will notice it and post a screenshot: the Steam store page for Halloween: The Game does not list Cross-Platform Multiplayer among its categories. We enumerated all twelve categories on the listing and it is not among them.

This is a metadata mismatch between two stores, not a reason to doubt the feature. Xbox’s own listing flags cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform co-op, and the developer and the official account both say crossplay. Steam’s category set simply does not reflect that right now. We are not going to speculate about why — no source addresses it, and a guess dressed up as an explanation would be worse than the gap.

What that means for you in practice: judge the feature on the Xbox flags and the official statement, not on the absence of a checkbox on one storefront.

Which platforms share the pool

The announced platform list is PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic (halloweengame.com). Crossplay is described as covering “all available platforms,” which is that list.

Just as important is what is not on it:

PlatformStatus
PS5Announced
Xbox Series X|SAnnounced (listing says Optimized for Xbox Series X|S)
PC — SteamAnnounced
PC — EpicAnnounced
PS4Not on the list — the PlayStation Store entry is PS5 only
Xbox OneNot on the list — no Xbox One entry on the Xbox listing
Switch / Switch 2Never announced
Mac / Linux / SteamOSNo — Steam lists Windows only

So there is no last-gen version to be crossplayed with, and PC means Windows. If you are on a Mac or running SteamOS, nothing has been announced for you.

The lobby that crossplay is filling is small, which is the reason it matters here: matches are 1v4 asymmetrical, five players total — one Michael Myers against four civilians (halloweengame.com). Xbox’s capability flags say online multiplayer 2-5 and online co-op 2-5. On PlayStation, the store notes up to five online players and that PS Plus is required for online play.

Is there cross-progression between platforms?

Not announced — and this is the most complete silence of the three. We checked the official site, the Steam listing, the Xbox listing, the PlayStation listing, the official X account and the developer Q&A. None of them mention cross-progression, cross-save, or cloud saves shared between platforms, in either direction.

Cross-progression is a separate feature from crossplay. Games regularly ship with one and not the other, so the confirmed crossplay tells you nothing about whether your unlocks, cosmetics and perks would travel from PS5 to PC. If you own the game on two platforms and are deciding where to put your hours, treat this as unknown rather than assuming it works.

Can you turn crossplay off?

Not announced. No toggle has been described anywhere — not in the official statement, not on any store listing, not in the Q&A. Nothing has been said about input-based matchmaking separation either, which is usually the reason players want the option in the first place.

IllFonic has said outright that more is still to come: “We’ll have more details to share regarding character progression, character traits, customization, proximity chat, and more thrilling gameplay features in the coming months.” A crossplay setting would plausibly land in that bucket, but plausible is not announced.

What time does crossplay go live on launch day?

Also not announced. The digital release date is 8 September 2026, and deluxe pre-orders get Advance Access from 9:00 AM PT on 4 September 2026 (halloweengame.com) — but no unlock time has been published for the 8 September launch itself, in any region, on any platform. If you are planning a launch-night group, plan the date and treat the hour as open.

FAQ

How do I add a friend on another platform? Open the Friends menu (three-person icon, top-left), go to the second tab, and share the friend code shown there; your friend enters it in the same place on their platform. Same-platform friends appear in the first tab automatically.

Does Halloween: The Game have crossplay? Yes, and it has been live since Advance Access on 4 September. The Xbox store listing carries the capability flags “Xbox cross-platform multiplayer” and “Xbox cross-platform co-op,” the official @HalloweenTVG account states the game “will support crossplay across all available platforms,” and IllFonic’s Jordan Mathewson said in a July 2026 Q&A that cross-play will be available.

Why does the Steam page not show a Cross-Platform Multiplayer category? It does not, and we checked all twelve categories on the listing. That is a mismatch between what Steam’s metadata says and what Xbox’s store flags and the developer both say. No source explains the discrepancy, so we are not guessing at a reason — the feature itself is confirmed by the Xbox flags and the official statement.

Is there cross-save or cross-progression? No, per the launch-week guides that tested it; IllFonic itself has never mentioned it in any official channel. Crossplay and cross-progression are different features and one does not imply the other.

Can I play with a friend on PS4, Xbox One or Switch? No. PS4 and Xbox One are absent from the store listings and Switch has never been announced. The announced platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The friend-code flow (Friends menu, second tab) and the party-to-private-match steps are from TheGamer’s multiplayer guide of 4 September 2026, which also reports no cross-progression and relays a PS5 player’s greyed-out crossplay party in matchmaking; the mixed-lobby crash report is one of the 100 most recent negative English Steam reviews read on 6 September 2026. The crossplay capability flags (“Xbox cross-platform multiplayer” and “Xbox cross-platform co-op”), the online multiplayer and co-op player counts of 2-5, and the absence of an Xbox One entry come from the Xbox store listing, checked 24 August 2026. The quoted line “Halloween: The Game will support crossplay across all available platforms” is from the official @HalloweenTVG account on X; that page would not load for us directly and the wording was recovered through search indexing, matching across two independent lookups, so the date of the post is deliberately not stated here. The line “An in-game friends list will be implemented, with cross-play available as well,” attributed to IllFonic’s Jordan Mathewson, is relayed by Horror Geek Life, 16 July 2026 — a paraphrasing outlet, not a first-party page. The missing Cross-Platform Multiplayer category, the Windows-only platform field and the 1v4 description come from the Steam listing (appid 3219630) and its store API record, checked 24 August 2026, where all twelve listed categories were enumerated. The platform list is from halloweengame.com; the five-player 1v4 structure from the multiplayer overview; the PS5-only entry, the five-player cap and the PS Plus requirement from the PlayStation Store listing. The Advance Access time of 9:00 AM PT on 4 September 2026 and the 8 September 2026 digital date are from the official pre-order post. Everything marked “not announced” — cross-progression, a crossplay toggle, input-based matchmaking separation, the launch unlock time, and the reason Steam’s category is missing — was checked against all of the above and appears in none of them.
