Enigma of the Labyrinth: Operation Bagel — the extraction mode, and how people actually run it
By DayOneFix Editorial · August 15, 2026
The new mode most people are searching for without knowing its name is “Enigma of the Labyrinth”, and the season currently running inside it is Operation Bagel.
Here is what it is officially, and then what players who have run it a few hundred times actually do — because those two things are further apart than usual.
What it is, officially
From HoYoverse’s Version 3.1 update announcement:
“Enigma of the Labyrinth” is a brand-new permanent game mode introduced in Version 3.1. Proxies need to venture into the depths of the Hollow to collect valuable supplies and evacuate in time.
The rest of the official framing:
| Type | Permanent mode, not a limited event |
| Unlock | Inter-Knot Lv. 40 |
| Live since | 5 August 2026, 10:00 server time |
| Loop | Enter the Hollow → collect supplies → evacuate before you lose them |
| What supplies do | Build infrastructure to repair the research station, or craft equipment that makes your Agents stronger inside the Hollow |
| Rewards | Polychromes from item collection, commissions and expanding your catalog |
| Store | Commissions redeem Agent Focus: Pyrois; Season Commissions redeem Twilight Afterimage and the Belle/Wise Proxy accessories |
So: an extraction loop. You go in, you take things, and the run only counts if you get out.
The strategy that actually dominates: don’t fight
The single most-watched Chinese clips on this mode are not combat guides. They are variations on going in with nothing, taking crates, and leaving inside a minute — one is titled, in effect, “high-risk difficulty, one million in ten minutes, pure crate-stealing, no fighting at all.”
The loop players describe:
- Bring the free gear. On high-risk runs one player’s summary is blunt: you only get three items anyway, and the equipment the mode hands you is enough. This is a zero-investment run — nothing of yours is at stake.
- Land and move, do not engage. The repeated phrase is “don’t fight, take the bread and go.” Enemies in many spots do not chase if you keep moving.
- Prioritise the weapon and gear crates. These are what pay. Players report a single secured container coming out worth over a million, and that the high-value backpack-type items sell for millions.
- Leave early. “Loot and extract inside a minute” is a real target, not hyperbole. The mode’s whole risk is that dying loses the run.
- If you go down, extract. The community rule is “hit the floor, pull out” — a downed run is not worth rescuing.
On Agent choice, the most repeated pick for this style is Hoshimi Miyabi, cited for raw movement speed and easier positioning — this is a running-and-grabbing mode, so mobility beats damage.
The thing that breaks most guides: you cannot memorise a route
This is worth stating loudly, because “full route guide” is the format most people will look for and it does not fit here.
By design, the interior is fog plus a randomised layout. Players make the point directly: you cannot learn the map. A video showing a perfect loop through a specific building is showing you one generated instance, not a route you can repeat.
What transfers between runs is not a path. It is:
- Which container types are worth the detour (weapon and gear crates over general clutter)
- Recognising when a room is a dead end and turning around instead of committing
- A time budget — decide before you enter whether this is a one-minute grab or a longer sweep, and hold to it
Treat any “best route” content for this mode as demonstration footage rather than instruction.
What the drop rates actually look like
Expectations first, because the mode is generous with volume and stingy with the good stuff:
- One player reported twenty-plus hours of looting before a gold-tier corrosion-resistant item finally dropped.
- Another needed thirty-odd runs for the large backpack.
- Meanwhile the mid-tier valuables drop constantly and are what actually funds you.
So the honest framing: the money comes from volume of fast runs, not from any single lucky container. That is also why the zero-investment approach wins — it makes a failed run cost nothing but the minute.
Where the supplies go
Two sinks, and they pull in different directions:
- Research station infrastructure — the long-term progression track
- Crafted equipment — gear that only boosts your Agents inside the Hollow
If you are early, the equipment side compounds faster: better in-Hollow gear makes deeper runs survivable, which makes the infrastructure track fill faster in turn. There is no reason to hoard for the store, since commissions rather than raw supplies are what redeem Agent Focus: Pyrois and the season rewards.
Naming, and what we could not verify
The mode name, the season name, the unlock requirement, the loop and the reward tracks above are all from HoYoverse’s own Version 3.1 announcement.
The specific zone and container names are not. Chinese coverage names both, but neither appears in the official English announcement, and this site does not invent English names for things HoYoverse has not published in English. Where you see a container described rather than named above, that is why. When the official English terms surface, they land here.
