No More Room in Hell 2 keeps crashing: what the developers say is actually causing it
By DayOneFix Editorial · August 16, 2026
No More Room in Hell 2 left Early Access on 11 August 2026, and the launch-week crash reports have a documented cause. On 13 August the developers published a known-issues post that names what is breaking and schedules the fixes — this page turns that into something you can act on, in the order worth trying.
The one fix most people have not heard: stop wearing patterned clothing
This is the highest-value item on the official list, and it is not intuitive:
“Memory issues that can occur when Responders are heavily customized. This occurs most often in squads, with DLC outfits, and when patterns and other added data is introduced. Until this is fixed, we recommend not selecting clothing that has logos & patterns.”
So if your crashes cluster around squad play rather than solo, and your Responder is wearing DLC outfits or anything with logos and patterns, that is a named, developer-acknowledged cause with a workaround available right now: strip the cosmetics back to plain items.
It is worth stressing how specific this is. Every generic crash guide will tell you to verify game files. None of them will tell you that your hat is eating memory in a four-player squad.
If the problem is stutter rather than a hard crash: update your GPU driver
The other item the devs consider already solved:
“Some players on PC with Nvidia graphics cards encountered hitching, which appears to be resolved by updating graphics card drivers.”
Note the wording — hitching, not crashing. If your complaint is periodic freezes and micro-stutter on an Nvidia card, this is the first thing to do and it costs ten minutes. If you are on AMD or Intel Arc, this item does not apply to you and driver-updating is unlikely to be your fix.
If you are on GeForce NOW: it is not you, and there is no fix yet
Listed by the developers as Under Investigation:
“GeForceNow users are unable to play the game, crashing after Terms of Service.”
A crash immediately after the Terms of Service screen on GeForce NOW is a known, unresolved platform issue. Nothing in your settings will fix it — this one waits on a patch.
If you are on a low-end machine or Xbox Series S
Memory-related crashes on weaker hardware are acknowledged, but the fix is scheduled rather than available:
“Improvements to memory usage which should resolve some crashes (especially on lower end machines and the Xbox Series S)” — Hotfix #2
In the meantime the customisation workaround above matters more on constrained hardware than anywhere else, because it is the same memory budget.
Worth checking your machine against the real floor while you are here — the minimum spec is 12 GB RAM, a GTX 1650 (4 GB) / RX 570 (4 GB) / Intel Arc 580, DirectX 12 and 35 GB of storage, on a 64-bit Windows 10 install. The stated experience at that spec is 1080p 30 Hz on Low, so a machine that merely meets the minimum is expected to run at 30 fps, not to run comfortably.
When the fixes actually land
| Hotfix | Timing given | Crash-related content |
|---|---|---|
| Hotfix #1 | Planned for early in the week of 17 August 2026 in the 13 August announcement | Various crash fixes; the customisation memory bug; server stability improvements |
| Hotfix #2 | ”the week of August 24th” | Remaining crash fixes; memory usage improvements for low-end machines and Xbox Series S |
One side effect worth knowing before Hotfix #1 arrives: it fixes hidden Early Access save data that was giving some players the wrong controller scheme, and the developers state plainly that everyone’s keybindings will be reset by that change. If you have a custom bind layout, screenshot it now rather than rediscovering this after the patch.
What is not a crash, and gets misreported as one
- Controllers losing focus on UI elements — level-up rewards and character creation are the named cases. Under Investigation; the game has not crashed, the input has.
- The Unload keybind not rebinding properly. A known bug, not a corrupted config.
- Controllers randomly vibrating. Also on the list. Not hardware failure.
- High ping in Oceania. The devs added an Oceanic server in Australia and updated matchmaking parameters in response to exactly this — if you are in the region and were getting long match times and poor quality before 13 August, retest rather than assuming it still applies.
FAQ
Why does No More Room in Hell 2 keep crashing in squads? The developers name a memory bug tied to heavily customised Responders — it occurs most often in squads, with DLC outfits, and when patterns and other added data is introduced. The official workaround until it is fixed: do not select clothing with logos and patterns.
Nvidia card stuttering rather than crashing — what do I do? Update your GPU driver. The developers say the hitching some Nvidia players encountered “appears to be resolved by updating graphics card drivers.” This item is about hitching, not hard crashes, and does not apply to AMD or Intel Arc.
Does the GeForce NOW crash after the Terms of Service have a fix? Not yet. It is listed by the developers as Under Investigation — nothing in your settings will fix it; it waits on a patch.
When do the crash hotfixes land? The 13 August 2026 announcement scheduled Hotfix #1 for early in the week of 17 August, covering various crash fixes, the customisation memory bug and server stability. It scheduled Hotfix #2 for the week of 24 August, with remaining crash fixes and memory improvements for low-end machines and Xbox Series S. Note: Hotfix #1 will reset everyone’s keybindings, so screenshot a custom layout first.
Is my PC below spec for this game? The minimum is 12 GB RAM, a GTX 1650 (4 GB) / RX 570 (4 GB) / Intel Arc 580, DirectX 12 and 35 GB of storage on 64-bit Windows 10 — and the stated experience at that spec is 1080p 30 Hz on Low, so a machine merely meeting minimum is expected to run at 30 fps.
