Mortal Shell II release date, time and the three-day early access
Mortal Shell II releases on
20 August 2026
The exact unlock time has not been announced. The countdown above runs to midnight where you are, which is the earliest the date can start for you — not a confirmed unlock moment. We update this page as soon as the publisher or the store page states a time.
No unlock hour has been announced for any platform — the official reveal gives the date, price and platforms only. The countdown runs to your local midnight and is labelled an estimate; if a site quotes an exact minute for this game, it did not come from the developer.
| Release date | 2026-08-20 |
|---|---|
| Developer | Cold Symmetry |
| Publisher | Playstack |
| Platforms | PC — Steam · PlayStation 5 · Xbox Series X|S |
| Preload | Not announced |
| Early access | Yes — see editions below |
Mortal Shell II is Cold Symmetry’s standalone sequel to the 2020 soulslike, and its launch is unusually staggered: Devout Edition buyers start 17 August, everyone else on 20 August 2026, across Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
That means early-access players are in the world now — launch-week questions start three days before the launch date on the box.
The dates that actually matter
| What | When |
|---|---|
| Devout Edition early access | 17 August (“PLAY IT THREE DAYS EARLY” — official announcement) |
| Standard release, worldwide | 20 August 2026 |
| Free open beta | Live now — Steam since 5 June, consoles since 31 July |
No unlock hour exists for any of these. The official reveal gives dates, platforms and pricing — nothing about a clock time, so any countdown to a specific minute is a guess, including the one above, which runs to local midnight and says so.
Try before you buy — the beta is free and running
This is the cheapest pre-order research available: the open beta contains the game’s Prologue plus an early section of the open world, per the official beta announcement — dungeons, mini-bosses, and in the developer’s words “one truly formidable foe.” It showcases three playable Shells: Tiel, the Acolyte; Eredrim, the Venerable; Proxima, the Broodseeker.
If your machine is near the minimum spec, the beta answers the performance question before you spend $49.99. What the beta includes and how to get in →
The spec line most people will trip on
| Minimum | |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 / 11 |
| CPU | Core i7-10700K / Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 16 GB |
| GPU | RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB / RX 6600 8 GB |
| API | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 70 GB — SSD required |
Two things stand out: 70 GB with a required SSD is a large, hard commitment, and no recommended tier has been published — the minimum is all Steam shows. A 2060 SUPER minimum for a soulslike suggests the floor targets modest settings; the beta is the honest way to check yours.
What the Steam page won’t tell you
The platform list. Steam’s own page says Windows only — because it is a Steam page. The official announcement names Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, all launching 20 August. (Same storefront confusion we documented for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam.)
Multiplayer. People search it, so plainly: there is none — single-player only, no co-op or PvP categories, no announcement saying otherwise. The full evidence →

FAQ
When does Mortal Shell 2 come out?
20 August 2026, worldwide, on Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — from the official 8 July announcement. No unlock hour has been published for any platform.
How do you play Mortal Shell 2 early?
Pre-order the Devout Edition, the digital deluxe version. Its officially stated perk is playing three days early — from 17 August rather than 20 August. That is the only announced early-access route.
How much does Mortal Shell 2 cost?
Standard edition: $49.99 / €49.99 / £39.99, confirmed officially. Devout Edition pricing is on the store pages; the delta buys you the three-day head start plus deluxe content.
Can I try it before buying?
Yes — the open beta is free and live right now on all three platforms (Steam since 5 June, PS5 and Xbox since 31 July). It contains the Prologue and an early slice of the open world.
Is Mortal Shell 2 co-op or multiplayer?
No. The Steam listing is single-player only — no co-op, multiplayer or PvP category — and no announcement mentions any multiplayer mode. Same as the first game.
What are the PC requirements?
Minimum: Windows 10/11, Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB or RX 6600 8 GB, DirectX 12, and 70 GB on an SSD — the SSD is required, not suggested. No recommended tier has been published yet.
Does it have Chinese language support?
Yes — both Simplified and Traditional Chinese are on the supported-language list, along with Japanese, Korean and the major European languages. English is the only full-audio language.
