Halloween: The Game unlocks worldwide at the same moment
8 September 2026
IllFonic's launch post of 3 September sets the full release at 9 AM PT on 8 September — 16:00 UTC, 17:00 in London, 00:00 on 9 September in Beijing and Taipei, 01:00 in Tokyo. It is the same hour Deluxe Advance Access opened on 4 September. Storefronts had not shown an hour before that post, which is why earlier versions of this page said none was published.

Halloween: The Game is IllFonic’s asymmetric horror take on Halloween night, 1978 — one Michael Myers against four Civilians, in a Haddonfield where the neighbours are people you have to persuade rather than props. IllFonic previously made Friday the 13th: The Game; Gun Interactive, co-publisher here, published The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Three dates, and which one is yours
| Date | What happens | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| 4 September, 9 AM PT | Advance access began — live now | Digital Deluxe pre-orders only |

The 8 September release unlocks at 9 AM PT (16:00 UTC) — IllFonic’s launch post of 3 September set the hour, matching the Advance Access start four days earlier. Storefronts still show only the date, which is why earlier versions of this page said no hour was published.
Out now: Day One Patch 1.0.1 and 500,000 players
The full launch went live on 8 September at 9 AM PT with Day One Patch 1.0.1 (cross-play party matchmaking fix, NPC pathing, balance pass, crash fixes); IllFonic reported over 500,000 players within hours and granted 5,000 Perk Points to everyone who logged in during Advance Access. The Steam rating on 9 September is Mostly Positive (5,437 / 2,260). Deluxe buyers had been playing since 4 September, 9 AM PT. IllFonic shipped Hotfix 1 on 5 September (crash fixes, challenge tracking, the Offline Play login-queue bug, Michael’s get-up prompt, Xbox Series S Performance Mode) and says a bigger patch is in development with no date. Two days in the Steam rating is Mixed (2,552 positive / 1,180 negative on 6 September). The known-issues tracker has every row with its source and is being kept through launch week.
The “Advance Access” trap
The phrase appears twice in this launch and means two different things:
- On the digital Deluxe edition, Advance Access means playing four days early, from 4 September.
- On the physical editions, “Advance Access cosmetic items” means those cosmetics unlock instantly instead of being earned through in-game challenges. It does not let you play before 6 October.
What the 24 August 2026 check did not confirm
The 24 August 2026 check found no official statement on the 8 September unlock hour, pre-load timing, cross-progression, a crossplay toggle, bots or AI-filled matches, match length, whether the single-player story runs offline, dedicated servers versus peer-to-peer, any post-launch roadmap or season pass, or Game Pass availability. The later Hotfix 1, released on 5 September, addressed the Offline Play login-queue bug, as recorded above.
FAQ
When does Halloween: The Game come out?
8 September 2026 at 9 AM PT (16:00 UTC) on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store — the hour comes from IllFonic's launch post of 3 September. Deluxe pre-orders have been playing since 4 September, 9 AM PT.
How do I play Halloween: The Game early?
Pre-order the $59.99 Digital Deluxe edition, which starts on 4 September at 9 AM PT — four days before the standard release. Steam's own listing carries the advance-access marker on the Deluxe purchase option and not on the $39.99 standard one.
Why do some sites say October?
Because the physical editions release 6 October, about four weeks after the digital launch on 8 September. Both dates are official; headlines that call this an October release are describing the disc, not the download.
Is Halloween: The Game on PS4, Xbox One or Switch?
No. The PlayStation listing is PS5 only, the Xbox listing is Optimized for Series X|S with no Xbox One entry, and no Nintendo platform has ever appeared on an official channel or storefront.
Can I buy it in Australia or New Zealand?
No. The Australian Classification Board refused the game classification over in-game drug use tied to a gameplay reward, and IllFonic Publishing has said this means it cannot sell the physical or digital product in either country. No appeal or resubmission has been announced.
Does Halloween: The Game have crossplay?
Yes — the Xbox listing carries cross-platform multiplayer and co-op capability flags, and the official account has stated crossplay works across all available platforms. Note that Steam's listing does not currently carry the cross-platform category, and cross-progression has never been mentioned by any source.
