What shipped, in numbers

From the 1.0 patch notes: the Deep North biome, 40+ weapons (Nord, Frostfire and Thunderblood lines, four staves), 4 armour sets, 2 capes, 2 trinkets, 10+ creatures, 80+ build pieces, 30+ materials, 20+ foods, new locations, music and events, a grappling hook, the Jotun invasion, upgradeable inventory pockets from Haldor, alternate versions of earlier biomes at the map edge, idols and a hidden forge for item upgrades, cinematics, and achievements. Under the hood: a draw-distance setting, a hammer and serving-tray menu overhaul, a cloth system, rebalanced Ashlands spawns, all hair and beard styles unlocked from the start, and a Unity engine upgrade.

The price deadline has passed: Steam lists $29.99 (US store, re-checked 28 September, no discount running). Owners paid nothing.

What we cover at launch

A five-year-old codebase meeting two brand-new platforms and universal crossplay on the same day is exactly the kind of launch where week-one issues cluster — crossplay invites, save migration, new-platform performance. If they show up at scale, they get tracked pages here; that is how we cover launches.

Sources

The 1.0 patch notes, the 12:55 UTC launch post and the FAQ pointer are from Iron Gate’s “Valheim 1.0 Has Arrived!” announcement on Steam (9 September 2026). The old-world, mod, price, crossplay and save-sync wording is quoted from Iron Gate’s Valheim 1.0 FAQ. The $29.99 price is the Steam store on 10 September. The 9 September date, the Deep North as the final biome, the PS5 and Switch 2 day-one debuts, universal crossplay and the $29.99 new-buyer price are from Iron Gate and Coffee Stain’s PC Gaming Show 2026 announcement, as carried by Massively OP and TechTimes; the biome and weapon details match the same coverage. No unlock hour, preload or platform-specific timing exists in any of it — where this page has no number, none has been published. The European-afternoon patch pattern is our own read of Early Access update history, labelled as such.

FAQ

When does Valheim 1.0 come out?

It is out — 9 September 2026. Iron Gate's 'Valheim 1.0 Has Arrived!' post went up at 12:55 UTC that day with the full patch notes; no unlock hour had been published beforehand and there was no staggered rollout.

What is in Valheim 1.0?

Per the 1.0 patch notes: the Deep North final biome, 40+ new weapons (Nord, Frostfire and Thunderblood lines plus four staves), 4 armour sets, 2 capes, 2 trinkets, 10+ creatures, 80+ build pieces, 30+ crafting materials, 20+ foods, a grappling hook, the Jotun invasion event, upgradeable inventory pockets via Haldor, new cinematics, achievements, a draw-distance setting and a Unity engine upgrade.

Is Valheim 1.0 free for existing owners?

Yes — the FAQ's wording: 'Your copy will simply update to a new version, same as always!' New buyers now pay $29.99 on Steam; the pre-launch price is gone.

Is Valheim coming to PS5 and Switch 2?

Yes — both are day-one platform debuts alongside 1.0 on 9 September, joining PC (Steam and Microsoft Store, Windows/Linux/Mac) and Xbox.

Does Valheim 1.0 have crossplay?

Yes — the FAQ: 'Valheim will support crossplay between all platforms.' Saves do not follow you: only Xbox and PC via the Microsoft Store share saves; beyond that there is no cross-platform save sync.

Do I need a new world for the Deep North?

Old worlds and characters carry over — 'your old saves will still be where you last left them' — but 'biome generation will only work properly on areas that have not yet been explored'. If you have already sailed near the map edge, the Deep North may not generate there; a fresh world is the reliable route, which is also what Iron Gate has recommended all along.

Do mods still work in 1.0?

Not guaranteed. The FAQ: 'Since we don't have any official mod support, we cannot guarantee that any mods will be functional when 1.0 releases.' Expect BepInEx-based mods to need updates from their authors; play unmodded until yours are confirmed.
